Submissions Guidelines

Queer Connections is a new publication which aims to celebrate the lives of queer women and non-binary people.

We are passionate about empowering them to tell their own stories in a supportive, joyful community. We are currently open for submissions.

Queer Connections will be distributed with GCN in December 2024. Submissions may also be published on our website and shared on social media.

What are we looking for?

We welcome all forms of writing, including fiction, poetry, essays, memoir and anything else you’d like to share. This publication is about celebrating the rich diversity of our community, so contributions from first-time writers and those who are marginalized within our community are especially welcome.

We are excited to see your ideas, but also wanted to share a few prompts to get the creative juices flowing.

We would love to read:

  • A fresh take on “the only gay in the village”

  • A celebration of the amazing work that’s already happening in the community (think: podcasts, MeetUps, sports teams, nights out etc)

  • “You are born naked. The rest is drag” - how does queerness influence how we present ourselves to the world?

  • Find inspiration in our pinterest board or in the words of Audre Lorde

Due to charity regulations, we can’t publish anything that’s overtly political.

How to Submit

Submissions are open to queer women and non-binary people (aged 18+) living in Ireland, or who consider Ireland their home.

Submissions are welcome via this link. Please ensure your work is double-spaced and submitted as a .doc, .docx or PDF attachment. Please title your file: Category_YourName e.g. Fiction_MaryMurphy.

Please submit between 400-800 words or up to 2 poems. Your name will be published alongside your submission.

All submissions should be previously unpublished.

Simultaneous submissions are allowed, but please let us know if your work has been accepted elsewhere.

We are a tiny, volunteer-run project so unfortunately, we cannot pay our contributors. But it is free to submit your work to us and we look forward to promoting your work.

All submissions will be closely read but we are unable to offer individual feedback. We will be in touch with everybody who submits  before the start of November.
